Both Ohio and West Virginia have issued stay-at-home orders, also known as a shelter-in-place order. Other states have already implemented this type of order or will likely follow suite soon.

Under these orders, both governors stated that essential industries will remain open, including the insurance industry.

Each month, we provide benefits and claims checks to policyholders, their injured workers and claimants. These payments play a critical role in the lives of so many people throughout our communities and underscore the reason we need to continue to operate during these trying times.

These checks we pay each month allow people to fix their cars, repair their homes, and have the financial resources necessary to buy groceries, pay their mortgage, get medical care, and otherwise provide for their families in these terribly uncertain times. If we were unable to fill this essential public need, thousands of people in the communities we serve would be immediately and severely impacted.

Our role in enabling so many others to persevere through this crisis explains why these governors have identified insurance as an industry essential to the ongoing welfare of our communities. We will continue to rise to the challenge.

We also thank our agents for their leadership in the communities we serve and their continued partnership in servicing our policyholders during these uncertain times.

As we continue to monitor the developments of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updates, we have made the decision for most Encova Insurance associates to work from home. This decision was made with our associates’ health and the health of all our communities in mind.

Encova associates began working remotely Tuesday, March 17, and will continue to do so through Friday, April 10, although this date is subject to change. This should not result in any service interruptions, and we remain committed to providing a high level of support to all our customers.

Our thoughts are with our independent agents, our policyholders and all the communities we serve during this time, and we hope you are safe and healthy. As promised, we will continue to evaluate our business continuity plans and will share any potential impact with you in a timely manner.

Best,
Thomas J. (TJ) Obrokta Jr.
