Complete protection for sentimental jewelry

Protecting your clients’ personal assets through Motorists is something you can depend on. As we enter this holiday season, personal effects such as jewelry are often received as gifts and involve an additional sentimental value. A Motorists Insurance Group homeowners policy can easily be tailored to address these needs. While most base homeowners forms provide named peril coverage for jewelry and include special limits for jewelry by loss of theft, options are available to increase these special limits.

To provide the most complete coverage, our recommendation is to schedule jewelry, using the Scheduled Personal Property Endorsement. An appraisal is always a good choice and may be required for items of a certain value. For jewelry previously scheduled, don’t underestimate the impact of inflation. Diamonds have increased in value 10 times since 1960 and doubled in value since the year 2000. Consider recommending an updated appraisal to protect this increase in value as well as a checkup and polishing by a local jeweler – this often leads to a smile from the proud owner of the item.

If you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your personal lines underwriter who can assist you with all of your clients’ coverage needs.
