Electronic downpayment tips and tricks

Personal lines electronic downpayments have enabled agents to provide a simple, expedited payment option to their personal lines clients for several months now. Below are some best practices to use this functionality to its full potential.

One important item to note is when electronic downpayment is selected and electronic funds transfer (EFT) is the collection method, you must complete the payment information within BillMatrix on the final page of e-Quote before submission.

Agents seeking to use EFT for future installments without a downpayment may continue to do so by selecting EFT as the payment type and leaving the downpayment information blank.

If you have a downpayment, please follow these steps:

  1. In e-Quote under downpayment method, select "electronic payment" from the dropdown menu.

  2. Enter the amount of the downpayment. Please note, this cannot be edited later in the BillMatrix screen when completing the billing information.
      
  3. Continue through the e-Quote steps as you would for any downpayment type.
      
  4. When you reach the e-Quote confirmation screen, the payment type will display with a "Make Electronic Payment" button.

    Please note, it is important that you do not close this box before clicking the "Make Electronic Payment" button.
  5. The BillMatrix box will open. Complete the electronic payment options for your policyholder and click submit. You'll then be returned to e-Quote to print the policy confirmation page for your records. Once the downpayment process is complete, you'll receive a six-digit confirmation number.
