Motorists homeowners have protection from Yahoo breach

Motorists Insurance Group policyholders affected by the recent Yahoo security breach can follow four simple steps to protect their identity.

All Homeowners policies with Motorists Insurance Group come standard with LifeStages protection from IDT911.

Affected users should receive a notice if their information was compromised. Share the following steps with your policyholders to ensure their identity stays secure:

  1. Read the notice carefully to learn what information may have been exposed and how. (Keep the notice in case you ever need to prove that your data was compromised through no fault of your own.)
  2. If you’re offered a year of free credit monitoring, take it.
  3. Pay extra attention to your account and billing statements. Check for charges that aren’t yours.
  4. After about 30 days (long enough for fraudulent activity to show up), log on to annualcreditreport.com to get a free copy of your credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, TransUnion and Experian). Look for any unusual activity.

Policyholders can visit the Motorists identity theft website for more tips.
