Reminder: Injury and illness logs must be displayed

It's important your workers' compensation customers understand what they are required to do to record job-related injuries and illnesses.

Under the recordkeeping regulations from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the majority of employers must prepare and maintain records of serious workplace injuries and illnesses using the OSHA 300 Log.

Effective Feb. 1, OSHA Form 300A, which summarizes any job-related injuries and illnesses logged during 2018, must be displayed in a common area where employee notices are usually posted. The form must remain posted until April 30.

The information logged in OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping forms is important for employers, employees and OSHA to help evaluate the safety of a workplace, take note of industry hazards and put protections in place to help reduce and eliminate workplace dangers.

Two classes of employers are partially exempt from keeping injury and illness records:

  • Those with 10 or fewer employees at all times during the previous calendar year
  • Workplaces in certain low-hazard industries
