Make your work-from-home space more ergonomic

While many of you and your policyholders adjust to working from home, here are a few simple tips to help make your workspace safer and more comfortable.

Working from your couch, recliner or even an outdoor patio chair can result in negative health impacts. Even working from a desk can result in issues if not properly set up. Long-term muscle aches, poor posture and joint pain can result from extended periods of sitting.

A few easy tips to follow:

  • Stretching is extremely beneficial for your overall health. Take a break to stretch every hour to help lower chances of injury or long-term issues.
  • Use a chair that’s adjusted properly so your feet rest on the floor and your knees are level with your hips. If needed, use a phone book or step stool to raise your feet to the correct height.
  • If you start feeling a strain, use a cushion (i.e., rolled towel) between the curve of your back and the back of the chair.
  • Keep items regularly used – mouse, notepad, phone, etc. – in close proximity to avoid unnecessary reaching.
  • Position your laptop or monitor so the top of the screen is level with your eye height. If needed, use a box or books to raise the computer.
